WHY BALANCE FLOORS IN FARROWING STALLS?

Nooyen's balance floor in the farrowing shed reduces the mortality rates of piglets due to overlays by at least 80%. This enables pig farmers with 1,000 sows to save the lives of more than 1,500 piglets a year!

Enjoying work more

All pig farmers and all sow farm employees know the problem.

All pig farmers and all sow farm employees know the problem. In the first few days after the piglets were born, you are always attentive to overlays. If you hear a piglet squeal, you do your utmost to try and save it. But you can often be unsuccessful and that's too bad. Every piglet that dies because the sow lays on it is a real shame. It really bothers you. It's something you don't want.

But what surprises pig farmers who work with balance floors most is the effect that this has on them, as pig farmers. They have no more worries about overlays, they can walk through the farrowing house differently, having time for other, more important things. That feels very good.

Easier work

Fewer overlays not only means more peace of mind, but it also makes the work easier. The balance floor is also the ideal solution for carrying out the various treatments that piglets need to undergo. You simply raise the floor, automatically creating a catch pen. All the piglets to one side and a partition placed behind them. That's it. Simple and efficient.

HOW THE BALANCE FLOOR WORKS

A balance floor is a movable floor under the sow.

Four simple cylinders enable the height of the floor to be adjusted by approx. 20 cm. When the sow stands up, it touches the three sensors. This feeds air directly into the cylinders, raising the floor. The floor stays in its raised position as long as the sow in standing. When the sow lies down, the floor is lowered slowly. The idea behind this is to save as many piglet lives as possible, because different sows display different behaviour. Some sows lie down and stand up faster and more frequently than others.

ENERGY-EFFICIENT DUE TO THE UNIQUE NOOYEN REPRESSOR

Nooyen has developed its repressor specifically for the balance floor:

This is a clever system which causes the air that is released when the floor is lowered to be returned to the compressor. This saves up to an impressive 40% in energy. Talk about sustainability.
