The Brecht Wyseur family, pig producers from Oostnieuwkerke (Belgium), have installed the first free farrowing pens at their farm. Since the summer of 2009, entrepreneur Brecht has worked full-time at the farm. Mr. Brecht and his family took over the farm in 2001 from his parents. By using free farrowing pens the farm will meet both the current and future legal and welfare requirements. Free farrowing is regarded by the Brecht Wyseur family as the future in pig farming. The project comprises 80 turnaround crates mounted on a Super-Coated Woven Wire floor. Furthermore, the flooring system includes integrated brackets for the crate.
